Preparing for success
No matter the activity (be it a sport or job), it is important to prepare and be appropriately equipped to set yourself up for success. High School athletes work their bodies very hard and although they are fairly young and resilient, it is still very important for the athletes to take good care of themselves. It is important to eat well, hydrate, and get plenty of sleep each night (7-8 hours). In addition to taking personal care of oneself, it is also important to have the right gear. Each Track & Field event may have its own special gear. A long distance runner may have different requirements than a sprinter. Athletes need to consult their coach to ensure that they have the appropriate shoes and any other pieces of equipment to practice and compete with. An athlete that is prepared will feel confident and ready from the start.
